Coffee occupies an important place in the world economy, being widely consumed as the most prestigious beverage. Although it is one of the largest traded commodities in the world, only tropical countries like the Philippines can produce it. As such, the Department of Agriculture identified coffee as one of its priority commodities in order to be able to grab a share of the world market.
