Hope this helps. ================================================================================= On the query about the source and price of red tilapia fingerlings and breeders: 1. A possible source in Metro Manila is the Bio-Research, Inc. in Parañaque owned by Mr. Wilson Ang. However, I do not have information on the address of Bio-Research. PCAMRD Office should know it. 2. Outside Metro Manila, a source is the Freshwater Aquaculture Center, Central Luzon State University (FAC-CLSU) in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, about 145 km from Manila. Contact Dr. Tereso Abella, FAC Director. The red tilapia fingerlings at FAC is a triple cross of O. niloticus X O. mossambicus x O. hornorum Prices of fingerlings vary with size: Size 24 (smallest) – Php 1.00 Size 22 - 2.00 Size 17 - 3.00 Size 24 (largest) - 5.00 No breeders are for sale |

Hi Mr Lapuz, The red tilapia fingerlings available at FAC- CLSU are mixed male and female. As added information, a prominently big restaurant (named ISDAAN) in Gerona, Tarlac has large number of adult cooking size red tilapias in big deep concrete tanks / ponds. You may want to see this and find out if you can buy some of their live red tilapia. I am not sure though about the quality of their tilapia. The ISDAAN is along the highway (Manila - Baguio) and Gerona is about 2.5 – 3 hours drive by car from Manila. Regards. C. dela Cruz |

Hello maam. Where can we buy red tilapia breeders in Visayas or in Cebu or Bohol in particular? I am a Project Manager of a government tilapia hatchery and we are planning to breed red tilapia also because our farmers are looking for this tilapia strain? |

Hi Bobby! Re: Red Tilapia Breeders in Visayas We have contacted BFAR Region 7. According to them they do not disperse Red Tilapia Breeders. This is avoid inbreeding. They are only allowed to disperse fingelings. Likewise, we also contacted National Freshwater Fisheries Technology Center (NFFTC)at CLSU, Science City of Muñoz. As per advise in order for you and your group to avail Red Tilapia Breeders you need to secure a letter of request addressed to Mr. Melchor M. Tayamen, Chief of Freshwater Fisheries Technology Center (NFFTC)CLSU, Science City of Muñoz 3120 Nueva Ecija. Pls. take note that request is subject to evaluation and approval of NFFTC. Thank you Sir Joeven for the info. If I could secure these breeders and produce fingerlings our farmers will surely buy them. This could boost SLSU-BONTOC IGP sales. Right now, I started producing all male get-excel fingerlings through sex reversal. Once again, thank you. |

sir joeven, how about in region 6? do they disperse red tilapia also? i am in binalbagan, negros occidental. i've requested for tilapia dispersal from the regional director last week. i'm hoping to get the red tilapia if ever there is a supply of it here in region 6. the nearest hatchery from our place is in himamaylan. but as far as i know, there's no red tilapia there because i already inquired about it last week. thank you, sir joeven, for your time. thanks, sir bobby, for opening this discussion. |

Jet, As per DA-BFAR Region VI they do not have dispersal program for red tilapia what they have is fresh water tilapia only. Just in case you are interested there are available red tilapia in SEAFDEC, Tigbauan, Iloilo. They are accepting orders but you have to request it so that they can prepare the fingerlings.
