Having your own garden not only serves as a source of food for the family, but can also provide a form of exercise.
While enjoying yourself in the garden, you are also working all the major muscle groups: legs, buttocks, arms, shoulders, neck, back, and abdomen. Gardening tasks that use these muscles build strength and burn calories.
Even the less strenuous forms of garden upkeep—weeding, trimming, and raking—can burn off about 300 calories an hour.
Aside from burning calories, garden activity increases self-esteem, pride, confidence, personal satisfaction, and efficacy according to gardeners.
