Mangosteen is usually grown on areas with an elevation of less than 500 meters above sea level. It thrives in deep, fertile, and slightly acidic soil with a pH level of 5.5 - 6.8. It can also adapt to heavy yet well-distributed rainfall, but may require a short dry spell of about 15-30 days during its flower induction.
Under favorable conditions, mangosteen bears fruit six to eight years after planting. Its fruits mature in 113-119 days from flower opening.
