red onionRed onions grown in the Philippines are known to have longer shelf life than the yellow ones. Red Creole and Red Pinoy are the most popular varieties in the country and are mostly grown in Central Luzon, MIMAROPA, and Ilocos Region. Quality produce from these varieties are also exported to Japan, Singapore, Hongkong, and Thailand.

In 2019, Central Luzon was the top producer of red onion at 19.74 thousand metric tons or 51.9% of the country's total production, followed by MIMAROPA with 42.4%, and Ilocos Region with 2.6%.
