coffee technotiipsCoffee has four known varieties: Robusta, Excelsa, Arabica, and Liberica. Among them, Robusta stands out in terms of yield and resistance to pest and diseases.

Robusta is typically planted in areas with lower altitudes, and is the dominant variety produced in the country with 69% (48,463 metric tons) of the total coffee production in 2015-2016. Its resistance to pest is attributed to its high caffeine content (2%-2.5% compared to Arabica's 0.8%-1.3%).

Robusta is commonly known as "kapeng manipis" and is the main ingredient of instant coffee.
