Agricultural production decreased in the fourth quarter of 2020

In the fourth quarter of 2020, the value of agricultural production at constant 2018 prices decreased by -3.8 percent. Production declines were noted for crops, livestock, poultry, and fisheries.

Crops, which accounted for 57.9 percent of the total agricultural output, contracted by -0.4 percent. Palay, and corn production went down by -1.4 percent and -0.3 percent, respectively.

Livestock registered a -12.9 percent decrease in production. It contributed 15.4 percent to the total agricultural output. Hog production dropped by -13.8 percent.

Poultry production declined by -5.5 percent. It shared 12.2 percent in the total agricultural output. Chicken posted a -7.9 percent reduction in production.

Fisheries, with 14.5 percent contribution to the total agricultural production, decreased by -4.7 percent. Major fish species such as fimbriated sardines, blue crab, threadfin bream, tiger prawn, tilapia, and yellowfin tuna recorded lower production levels.

At current prices, the value of agricultural production at PhP 503.8 billion was 5.0 percent higher than the previous year's level.
