Also known as Zea mays, corn is a popular cereal grains. It is mainly used as food for human consumption, feeds for animals, seeds, and as an industry itself. With its countless varieties and number of nutritional benefits, corn ranks second to rice in terms of area devoted to its production.
Whole-grain corn is as healthy as any cereal grain. It is rich in fiber and many vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It is a good source of vitamin A that is important for normal vision, the immune system, and reproduction.
Refined corn products are also widely consumed, frequently as ingredients in processed food which include tortillas, tortilla chips, polenta, cornmeal, corn flour, corn syrup, and corn oil.
Because of its versatility, this crop is popular among farmers. Corn is best grown from May to June during wet season, and from October to November during dry season. (healthline.com)
