![]() For open-pollinated variety, select 150 - 200 ears for seed purposes before harvesting, using the following criteria: • from plants with the same ear height • big, uniform ears • free from pests and diseases • ears with the same distinct color after husking Timely harvesting is recommended to: • reduce the risk due to adverse weather conditions, • minimize severe postharvest losses, • prevent further development of ear fungi, and • minimize insect and rat damages.
