sigarilyasWinged beans (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus), locally known as sigarilyas, is a tropical legume plant. Most of its parts including immature pods, mature seeds, tender leaves and shoots, flowers, and tubers are edible and used in the East-Asian cuisine. The leaves can be eaten like spinach and the flowers can be used in salads. The tubers can be eaten raw or cooked, while the seeds can be used in similar ways as the soybean.

As versatile as it is, winged beans are also packed with essential nutrients such as protein, complex carbohydrates, B vitamins, calcium, iron, and fiber which provide an abundance of health benefits. It helps improve vision, boost immunity, and prevent premature aging, diabetes, and asthma. It can also help reduce headaches, cure sprains, and ensure a healthy pregnancy.

Winged beans are definitely a good addition to a well-balanced and budget-friendly diet. (Health Benefits Times)
