#TECHNOTIPS: Coconut oils | |
Coconut oil contains a number of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) which are a great a source of energy for the body. As the name suggests, MCTs contain medium-length chains of fats which are easier to digest compared to longer-chain fatty acids found in other food.
With this characteristic, coconut oil can potentially promote weight loss and help in reducing lactate build-up and in converting fat to energy.
Aside from being a good energy source, the MCTs found in coconut oil can help manage some illnesses like epilepsy and reduce risk factors of heart disease. It also known to have antimicrobial and antifungal properties. Moreover, coconut oil has the ability to reduce the growth of disease-causing bacteria called Clostridium difficile, while MCTs themselves have also been shown to suppress the growth of a widespread infectious fungus in hospitals by up to 50%.
