vco lauric acidVirgin coconut oil (VCO) is widely promoted as a superfood. It has a unique combination of fatty acids that may have positive effects on health, such as aiding in fat loss and improving heart health and brain functions.

VCO has high lauric acid content, which makes up about 50% of the fatty acids in coconut oil. Lauric acid is used for treating viral infections including influenza, the common cold, fever blisters, cold sores, among others. It is also used for preventing the transmission of HIV from mothers to children.

Other uses for lauric acid include treatment of bronchitis, intestinal infections caused by a parasite called Giardia lamblia, and ringworm. (Healthline and WebMD)
