RAMON, Isabela - The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in collaboration with the provincial government of Isabela on Wednesday distributed at least 500,000 tilapia fingerlings to 50 fish cage operators in Magat Reservoir.

The distribution was part of its restoration assistance to fisherfolk affected by Typhoons Ulysses, Quinta, and Rolly that hit most parts of Northern Luzon.

The fingerling distribution which started during the observance of the 58th Fish Conservation Week in the third week of September will be replicated in other areas of the region to increase fish production and ensure that the “Masaganang Ani, Mataas na Kita” will be achieved.

Dr. Severina S. Bueno, chief of the Fisheries Production and Support Services of the Department of Agriculture-BFAR Region 2 (Cagayan Valley), in a statement, said by providing fingerlings to affected fisherfolk, will help them restore their source of livelihood.

She also encouraged the fisherfolk to practice proper record keeping and report actual production after the culture period.

Provincial Agriculturist Marites Frogoso convinced the fisherfolk to coordinate with her office for necessary assistance to help them cope with the losses incurred due to past calamities. (PNA)
