Healthy soils are not only key in producing food, fuel, fiber, and medical products, but are also crucial to the many ecosystems. Soils are vital in the carbon cycle, storage, and water filter, as well as in improving resilience to floods and droughts.
As the primary foundation of food, soil plays an important role in the life of every individual. How food is grown or raised can have a major impact on the mental and emotional health of the consumer.
Organic foods often have more beneficial nutrients, such as antioxidants, than their conventionally grown counterparts. Moreover, people with allergies to foods, chemicals, or preservatives may find their symptoms depreciating or going away when they eat only organic foods.
Producing healthy food also greatly affects the environment. Organic agriculture tends to have better effect to the natural surroundings. Organic farming practices may reduce pollution, conserve water, reduce soil erosion, increase soil fertility, and use less energy.
