A well-leveled rice field improves water use efficiency which, in turn, results in better crop yield and quality, improved weed control, and improved seeding practices.
Studies show that a well-leveled field can increase yield by 24%. It can also reduce weeds by up to 40%. Weeding time is also reduced from 21 labor days per hectare to 5 labor days per hectare. It also helps improve the reliability of direct seeding, reducing the labor requirement by up to 30 person-days per hectare. (International Rice Research Institute)
