ILOILO CITY, July 19 – The Iloilo Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) is set to revaccinate cattle and carabao in the municipality of Leon, Iloilo this week.

The PVO said that the revaccination is in light of recent reports of hemorrhagic septicemia (hemosep) cases in the municipality. Leon is some 28 kilometers from Iloilo City.

Dr. Silvino Teodosio, Iloilo provincial veterinarian, said that they are set to revaccinate all livestock in the municipality as soon as vaccines arrive.

Likewise, the PVO has already given out vitamins to livestock farmers. The vitamins will help strengthen the resistance of carabaos and cows against hemosep that usually attacks this wet season, said Teodosio.

Hemorrhagic septicemia (hemosep) is a disease characterized by a sudden onset of high fever, dyspnea, salivation, and hot painful subcutaneous swellings. Most cows and carabaos infected with the disease die in about 24 hours.

Hemosep has already killed 14 livestock in Leon, which include nine carabaos and five cows. The municipality of Leon is the livestock capital of Iloilo. [(PNA)LAP/AJP/LPCarnaje]
