Corn ranks second to rice in the Philippines in terms of area devoted to its production. It is mainly used as food for human consumption, feed for animals, and seeds, and seen as a profitable industry as a whole.It is also the main ingredient of the animal feed industry, constituting about 60-70% of the feed ingredients. It is used in food and industrial products as well.

It may be planted any time of the year provided there is adequate soil moisture. However, it is best to plant from May to June during the wet season and from October to November during the dry season. The use of high quality seeds is a must in the production of high-quality corn especially for commercial grains.
