Hi Cecil!

Vermicomposting is another way of producing organic fertilizer by using earth worms as its decomposers. Vermicompost, as a product, is a nutrient-rich organic fertilizer that is also a very good soil conditioner. Compared to ordinary compost, vermicompost is ready to harvest in less than two months provided this is under proper management.

Hello mam. I just want to know if this earthworms being utilized for vermiculture have an adverse effect on the soil and the environment in particular if they are interspersed or interbreed with the native earthworm population?

Hi Mr. Basco!

Earthworms used for vermiculture does not merely affect the soil. Because it is grown indoors. The one that affects the soil will be its casts. It has nutrients that is very helpful for plant intake. These worm casts (vermicompost) are very good in conditioning the soil.
